Dev Pro — Pay-per-use rates

Credits are deducted from your balance as you use the platform in production. Top up at any time from the billing panel inside the app.

What Rate Notes
Orchestration $0.015 / call Charged per agent call made through the production API (combo-agent sub-calls included).
LLM API cost Model cost + 15% Backprompter routes via OpenRouter. You pay the model's listed cost plus a 15% service markup.
Storage (app & RAG) $0.05 / MB / month App and agent configuration plus documents indexed for retrieval, billed together on what you have stored. Measured on the extracted text content, not the original file size — a 10 MB PDF of scanned images may extract to well under 1 MB of text. Charged once a month, so deleting data stops the charge.
Production API key $10 one-time One-time activation fee per app to enable the production API key and deploy a chat UI.
Voice — input audio $0.10 / min User speech transcribed via Deepgram (active speech only, silence not charged).
Voice — output audio $0.40 / min Assistant text-to-speech playback via Deepgram Aura-2.
Bring Your Own Keys (BYOK) On any plan you can supply your own OpenRouter or OpenAI API key in the app settings. When BYOK is enabled the model's token cost is billed directly to your own key, so Backprompter charges only the 15% service fee on that cost instead of cost + 15%. Orchestration and storage rates are unchanged.
Hobby plan — what a free account can do A free account can't create apps or agents, or run agents, of its own. It can build and test on an app when a Dev Pro account invites it as a teammate — that work is billed to the app's owner. To build your own apps, upgrade to Dev Pro and add credits.
Frequently asked questions

What counts as a "message"?

A message is a single user-initiated prompt sent to an agent (including simulated user messages). Sub-calls made by combo-agents do not count as additional messages, but each sub-call does incur an orchestration fee on Dev Pro.

What does the Backprompter Copilot cost?

Each copilot question is charged to the owner of the app you have selected (or to you, if no app is selected), at the model's listed cost plus the 15% markup, with no orchestration fee; with BYOK, just the 15% fee. If the copilot searches the web to answer, the search fee (about $0.01 per search, at most two per question) is included in that cost. A typical question costs around a cent or two. Questions it can answer without searching cost nothing extra.

Do I need a credit card for the Hobby plan?

No. A free account needs no payment details, and you can join any app a Dev Pro teammate invites you to. A card is only needed when you upgrade to Dev Pro or add credits.

What happens when my credits run out?

Production API calls will be rejected until you top up. Your agents and all configuration remain intact. You can add credits at any time from the billing panel inside the app.

Can I cancel Dev Pro?

Dev Pro is a one-way upgrade — you cannot downgrade back to Hobby. If you stop adding credits and your credit balance reaches zero, production API calls will be rejected and your deployed agents will stop responding to end users. Your configuration (agents, apps, files) is never deleted; adding credits restores full functionality immediately.

How does the production API key work?

A production API key lets you call your agents server-to-server from your own backend using the Backprompter SDK. There is a one-time $10 activation fee per app. See Tutorial 3 for a full walkthrough.

Can I run Backprompter locally or on my own infrastructure?

Yes. We offer a self-hosted build for running Backprompter locally — with local models, other providers, or fully air-gapped. It's licensed separately; email info@backprompter.com for a quote.

What models are available?

Any model available on OpenRouter can be used. LLM cost is the model's listed price plus Backprompter's 15% markup, or exactly the model's listed price if you use BYOK.
